My favourite book This was my first Marian Keyes book, it was recommended by my mum who read it when it was first released and still now raves about it. For such a hard subject to address and write about, Marian did an amazing job. It made me laugh, it made me cry and I was gripped the whole time. I started it thinking it would just be romance novel but it was so much more than that and the way she wrote about addiction was spot on. Realistic, heartwarming treatment of a tricky subject I recommend this book to anyone who thinks they have addictive tendencies or who turn to substances or behaviours to avoid feelings. I’d also recommend this book to family or friends of addicts to give them an idea of the thinking which drives addictive behavior. Good but with some significant imperfections I very much enjoyed the storyline of this novel; Rachel’s journey through the Cloisters, an addiction treatment centre, and the flashback descriptions of her life in New York prior to entering this establishment made very entertaining – and informative – reading. However the writing style, which was excellent in some parts of the book detracted, in other parts, from the enjoyment of the story.
