Astounding An astounding story about the man who created Astounding magazine, plus the SF writers in his “club”: Asimov, Heinlein and Hubbard. Many other SF writers make appearances, too. The book also makes it clear how sexist it all was despite the roles played by some of the women in the men’s lives. If you read SF and want to learn its history then get hold of this excellently researched and readable book.
Amazing insight into the birth of Scientology! An absolutely amazing tale. I admit the most fascinating aspects are L.Ron Hubbard and the start of Dianetics and the church of Scientology. It did an excellent job setting the stage and the backstory to how such a ridiculous feat was achieved in the creation of this dangerous and money hungry cult.
study of a classic era in sci-fi,an eye-opener for fans This is a great book if you are at all interested in the history of science fiction,a genre which John W.Campbell shaped. He was the man behind ‘Asimov’s’ Three Laws of Robotics and psychohistory.I came to this book as mainly an Asimov fan but the book also has fascinating stuff about the lives of Heinlein & Hubbard.I hadn’t realised before that Hubbard was quite such a popular author of the day
