Book 1 in the Hellequin Chronicles.

How do you keep the people you care about safe from enemies you can’t remember?

Ten years ago, Nate Garrett awoke on a cold warehouse floor with no memory of his past—a gun, a sword, and a piece of paper with his name on it the only clues to his identity. Since then, he’s discovered he’s a powerful sorcerer and has used his magical abilities to become a successful thief for hire.

But those who stole his memories aren’t done with him yet: when they cause a job to go bad and threaten a sixteen-year-old girl, Nate swears to protect her. With his enemies closing in and everyone he cares about now a target for their wrath, he must choose between the comfortable life he’s built for himself and his elusive past.

As the barrier holding his memories captive begins to crumble, Nate moves between modern-day London and fifteenth-century France, forced to confront his forgotten life in the hope of stopping an enemy he can’t remember.

The series transitions from Mark Lawrence to Alex Rivers/CN Crawford Great first novel, and worth 5*. The writing is gripping, and the excuse for rebooting a superhuman who is 1000’s of years old while still giving him room to evolve is entirely credible. We are introduced to characters who start to take centre stage,…

Brilliant books with brilliant characters I discovered the Hellequin Chronicles probably about 18 months ago and was so addicted to them right from the get go that I didn’t think to leave a review. So now, after my THIRD re-read, I figure it’s time to do just that. These books are brilliantly written, there’s a good amount of history involved in them too, but not in the way you would expect. The characters are strong and feisty – some have a bit of a bad attitude – but they are all fantastically well-written. There’s…

Good start. Plenty of things to love about this book. One I’d got past the gratuitous and too graphic sex scenes I got quite addicted. As a history buff I enjoyed the time switch. As a Merlin buff I loved the magic and Merlin references. I think Nate may be a worthy hero. I look forward to the other books. The writing style and humour were what kept me reading as well as the story itself. Very promising.
