Dorling Kindersley travel guides work well for all these purposes as they are invariably lavishly illustrated and eminently readable. Massive fan of these new DK booklets Well you’re paying around £9 (June 2019) for a slim and very focused, pockable book that can potentially add huge value to your holiday break. I’d say that’s tip top value.These Dks do much of the sifting for you, but don’t take that as permission to buy and forget your wider responsibilities to do more detailed research around the topics that specifically interest you.
