Sometimes history seems to repeat itself in this world with very few people taking any notice. “Why?” I often ask myself. Somehow, I think one of the reasons is that we humans seem to quickly forget the past because of the issues that confront us presently, and, the daunting ones that lie ahead.
“Who cares about the past anyway?” I do!
I desire as much as possible, to remember historical events and how they have managed to influence the different activities of today, whether positively or negatively. Of course, there have been many good impacts, as well as several mistakes history has left us, it is therefore important for us to know what really happened so that we do not repeat the same mistakes people made in the past. The saying goes that: “Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it” Repetition of unpleasant history has been a major setback in our world… However, there has been so much on the positive side of history through many individuals who left their footprints on life’s path. Mary Slessor, a missionary from Scotland worked hard to stop the killing of twin babies in southeast Nigeria, William Wilberforce and David Livingstone’s relentless efforts helped to stop slave trade in Western Africa. Henry Venn supported the rights of the African Church to be self-governing. Amy Carmichael was a British protestant missionary in India who opened an orphanage and founded the mission in Dohnavur. Gladys Aylward carried the gospel of Jesus to parts of China and Taiwan.
“History Not To Forget” series would retell some of these not-to-be-forgotten stories to remind the old and enlighten the young…
