In this game of love, he has to decide what he can lose and what he can’t live without.

Winston Ambrose, the dashing but reckless Earl of Longberry, loses everything in a game of cards. A cruel wager becomes his only way out: his debt will be forgotten, but only if he manages to melt the heart of the obnoxious Miss Grace Leighton.
But when his trap takes an unexpected turn and his own heart is the one that starts melting, the deception he’s woven becomes his worst nightmare.

Marriage is the last thing on Grace Leighton’s mind. Content with her books and charity work, she is naturally suspicious of the charming earl that starts pursuing her. As she begins to discover the man behind the rumors though, her heart starts changing in the most unexpected ways.

When Grace finds herself entangled in a dangerous mystery, Winston is the only one she can turn to for help. While they race against time to unravel the scheme of a devious mind and save an innocent soul, their secrets and lies threaten to tear them apart forever…

So much better for not being about the beautiful people I thought this book was a rollicking good read because both hero and heroine are flawed. The hero has trouble with commitment because his family died when he was a teenager. The heroine is feisty but alas, she is plain, thin and with flyaway red hair and freckles. The book also deals with the harsh underbelly of London, the poor and deprived, the orphans and exploited. Our heroine is lovely because she cares about them. Our hero comes to value her commitment and morals above those he’d…

unforgettable characters, compelling story. I got hooked from the first page. Lord Winston Ambrose Longberry is a rake, gambler and didn’t have much interest in bettering himself after he lost his family. He lost his father’s watch during a card game but he was told he could win it back if he could make Lady Grace Leighton fall in love with him and break her heart.Grace was not described as the conventional regency ladies. She was portrayed as a plain looking girl, and she had come to terms with that. What she lost in looks…

A little bit different To me historical romances are light reading where you can imagine life back in time. All have a lot in common. This one was definitely different. Usual romance with a twist but also a proper police mystery. Unusually the heroine has a conscience about the poor people and would rather spend money on children in an orphanage than fine ball gowns. The hero is a wealthy lord who spend his money on fine clothes, drinking and betting.. to find out how they get together you must read this book.
