Great read This book gives an insight into aspects of Gil’s life which includes: his childhood, family and careers. He described going on tour with Stevie Wonder. And the campaign for the Dr King national holiday – the purpose of the book. He wanted to highlight the significant role Stevie Wonder played, as he didn’t think he was credited enough. This is a must read, add to the collection if like me you love GSH!

The man behind the music This was a good read. I stayed interested throughout and it was interesting to learn more about the early life of Gil Scott-Heron. Four stars and not five, because he wrote mostly about music, his career progression and who he played with, which is really interesting, but he missed out on his emotional life. One read the book wanting to know more about him as he is such a good song writer. If you are interested in music or the 70’s and 80’s it doesn’t disappoint. He is a good writer.
