The public face. A private reality. Sometimes, the dead have a lot to hide.

DI Nathaniel Caslin’s life is a mess. He works the minimum, abuses substances to survive the day, and drinks his nights away. A once-promising career is in freefall.

Investigating the death of an ex-serviceman in police custody reveals the disappearance of a young family. No-one noticed. No-one seems to care. In the grip of a bitter, Yorkshire winter, a family home reluctantly offers up its grisly secrets. Out on the moors, a murder scene of horrific brutality demands Caslin’s focused attention. In the search for answers, is anyone who they claim to be?

Haunted by the ghosts of the past, Caslin is pushed to his limits. Will this case break him or be his path to redemption?

Bad editing Another book I couldn’t finish or get into. There were so many mistakes on the first page- punctuation, cut-and-paste errors etc, that I thought it was self-published; and I was prepared to forgive and plough on. When I saw there was some big publishing house behind it, I gave up.Please! writers and publishers: put your editors to work, ask as many people as you dare to proofread, go over your manuscript as many times as you can bear!!!Most readers best remember the books they loved…

Great, story, appalling. editing, I’m sure that Caslin will become a new favourite of mine, as long as he manages to control his liking for drugs. Divided House is a fine first novel and sets up the main character quite well. There are many twists and turns in this tale that has plenty to keep the reader interested. The main problem with this book, or perhaps it’s just the Kindle version, is the appalling editing. The punctuation is awful. Sometimes, I had to re-read a paragraph to make sense of it; this really spoils the flow…

Ok If you like the cliched bad boy detective but tiring to read This book is a typical cliche of your average police drama. The main character has traits which are identical to those of so many other detectives in recent fiction. I’ve known a lot of police detectives and never come across any who are as sad as this one! The cliched marriage problems, access to children issue, difficulty with personal relationship and disliked by superiors is annoying. The plot is ok but many loopholes are so large you could drive a truck through it. Not the best read for me.
