A DISAPPOINTMENT I bought my first A-Z map of London when I arrived there in 1953; it was an indispensable aid and fell to pieces from use even before I left for more distant places. My second copy, I thankfully threw away in 1986 when i shook the dust of London from my feet forever. Amazingly interesting book! This book is so much more than the ‘coffee-table’ book it’s described as. It’s a very comprehensive history of London with, instead of picture illustrations, there are maps – of every conceivable type. Now, I know I may be making it sound boring but, believe me, it isn’t. There are maps dating from Roman times, through to the current era and each section of the book is concerned with a different aspect of London and its development as a city.
