No Zombies! At last a dystopian survivalist story that doesnt have the involvement of flesh eating zombies (havent people had enough of that genre now?). So the tale for me was quite well set and contrived to pass over those emotions of devastation..the plot rolled along at a nice gait nd the character building was excellent I thought.The repetitive comparison for the author that he was akin to Stephen King….for me King has got far too introspective in his writings, with is own ego bubbling above…
A cut way above A very clever and well written book, beautifully constructed characters, a world destroyed by mad men led by a truly evil person unleashes a tidal wave of doom upon humanity. And as humanity flat lines out, there is always a chink of hope, always the best laid plans never go as intended. Well written and paced. The initial storyline is incredibly gripping and pacey, but then settles down to the usual cross-country survival trek with the inevitable confrontation and rescue. The characters are a little wooden but believable, and the “facts” are well researched and presented – why you’d prefer to cycle than ride motorbike was hard to swallow. The ending is good but almost too clean and constructed, with more than a touch of serendipity to make it work. I think I’ll leave the story there and didn’t…
