Excellent book This looks a excellent book but I think Julian Holland is the best railway author there is i own every book he has written the only reason I bought a kindle edition because at my age 76 my eyesight is not so good as it was I waiting for a kindle edition of Britain railway history so I can read it again thank you for a excellent book

Great Book Very interesting and easy to read book describing the various rail tours of the past. Such a pity there are now only a handful of tours and none of them quite as romantic

Factual, basic and tedious format. I found this a profoundly disappointing book which lacks much substance and is lightweight.The book broadly divides into three sections:1.Brief descriptions of the 120 or so individual railway companies which existed until 1922. These descriptions rarely exceed a couple of pages with a couple of illustrations.2. From 1923 to nationalisation in 1947 sections of the four main operators – GWR, LMS, LNER and Southern. So, for example, for GWR there’s two pages…
