Great content. Disappointing design. I’ve been a huge fan of Dave Addey’s website (typesetinthefuture.com) and articles for many years. As a result, I’ve look forward to this book since it was announced, quite sometime ago. I also pre-ordered as soon as I could. The content itself is just a good as I’d expected, with great, well-researched in-depth articles on all the films listed in the book’s synopsis. However, I feel it fair to say that I was very disappointed by the book’s design, both in terms of layout…

Witty and wry but also informative: fonts form your view of the future Wonderful, wry and insightful: a new way to think about SF films. You don’t notice the icons and fonts in films, perhaps, but Addey does and points out what subtle messages they convey. 2001, Alien, Star Trek, Blade Runner and more all built our thinking about what “the future” will look like.Probably the funniest part is Addey’s examination of the “photo enhance” sequence from Blade Runner. Must-read.

Superb insight, brilliantly written A great book looking at the detail you’ve never had time to look at, doesn’t matter if you’re a designer with a love of type or a technologist with a love of sci-fi – it’s a great book with something for everyone. Love it.
